Asclepias perennis (white swamp milkweed)

Description

Great for attracting monarch butterflies into the garden. USDA hardiness zones 3a-8b (lows -39.9 °C or -39.8 °F). Milkweed thrives in full sun to light shade, in wet to consistently moist soils. Grows and spread by underground rhizomes. It is an excellent choice for a butterfly meadow or rock garden. Sweet but subtle vanilla scent; white-to-pale-pink blooms on long stems make for a great cutflower. Slow release fertilizer is optional. Over-fertilization can inhibit flowering.
