Rosemary Upright ‘Blue Gem’ (Rosmarinus officinalis)

Description

Aromatic, needle-like, gray-green leaves add a surprisingly pungent note to cocktails. Try combining with watermelon and tequila. Hardy, upright, 3-5′ plants are easy to grow, with pale blue flowers in summer.

Heart of Agave Tequila Garden:

Tequila and mezcal come from the unlikeliest of sources: the roasted heart of the agave, a spiky desert plant. Roasting it caramelizes the sugar and results in a rich, smoky spirit. To the delight of mixologists everywhere, tequila blends well with spicy herbs like sage as well as sweet summer fruit. Try a twist on the classic margarita with watermelon and ‘Margarita’ mint.

Topiary: Muddle 1.5 ounces tequila, juice of ½ lime, dash of simple syrup, cucumber and Arp rosemary. Shake over ice and strain into glass filled with ice. Top with tonic or club soda.
