Melon ‘Golden Midget’ Watermelon

Description

An outstanding little watermelon, with golden-yellow rind. Sweet, refreshing, salmon-pink flesh pairs with tequila, rum or vodka – use the juice as a mixer or add a few chunks as garnish. 70 days. Photo courtesy of Seed Savers Exchange.
Care: Space 3-5′ apart in all directions. Melons need heat and well-drained soil: plant in full sun in raised beds or hills.

Heart of Agave Tequila Garden:

Tequila and mezcal come from the unlikeliest of sources: the roasted heart of the agave, a spiky desert plant. Roasting it caramelizes the sugar and results in a rich, smoky spirit. To the delight of mixologists everywhere, tequila blends well with spicy herbs like sage as well as sweet summer fruit. Try a twist on the classic margarita with watermelon and ‘Margarita’ mint.

Agave y Sandia: Muddle 1.5 ounces tequila, ½ ounce Combier, fresh Golden Midget watermelon, juice of ¼ fresh lime, mint or rosemary sprigs. Shake over ice, strain and pour into a cocktail glass.
