An exceptionally fine flavored variety that has the best eating quality of all kales. The textured ruffled leaves of Emerald Ice develop a striking contrasting white center as they mature and have the sweetest flavor – even the leaf stalks taste like candy and hold the crispiest texture. Excellent winter hardiness makes kale a useful winter to spring vegetable at a time when fresh garden produce is scarce. Height: 35″. Spread: 24″. Care: Plant 20-30″ apart in rows 24-36″ apart in full sun, cool moist soil.
Cold-tolerant plants that stand in the field for harvest as needed in late fall and early winter. May overwinter in mild seasons, or die back and sprout from the root in spring for an extra-early crop. See our Fall & Winter Vegetable Guide for specific planting/harvest times & freeze-out temperatures.
