Foodie Delight Mexican Mint Marigold (Tagetes lucida)

Description

Sweet licorice flavor brightens salads and main dishes. The edible golden-yellow flowers bloom all summer. Thrives in warmer climates where French tarragon will not grow. Also known as sweet mace or Mexican tarragon. Use the flowers to garnish desserts and drinks with the same sweet licorice flavor as the leaves. Requires average to good, well-drained soil. Over-fertilization will result in lush, weakly flavored vegetative growth with few flowers. Grows 16-20″ with an 8-12″ spread. Zones 8-11. Leaves may be harvested throughout the growing season and used fresh or dried. Plants may be dug in the fall in areas colder than Zone 8, brought inside as houseplants, and replanted outside the following spring. Photo courtesy of Johnny’s.
