Oregano ‘Mexican’ (Lippia graveolens)

Description

Mexican Oregano has a lemony, oregano flavor that is a must in Mexican and Tex-Mex cooking, used in crushed-leaf form. It is primarily grown during summer months; the entire plant should be cut to the ground and hung indoors before first frost so its leaves can dry out and be removed and crushed for culinary use. It can grow to three feet or more in one year. It requires a very sunny location and quite a bit of space. It will spread to three or four feet wide. The leaves on the branches are far apart. This results in long stems with not many leaves. If you love this herb, you may want to plant two or three plants. Photo from Mountain Valley Growers.
