Why choose native plants? Pacific Northwest native plants know how to live here and how to thrive here. They often need much less water and less fertilizer. They spread slowly and are not invasive. They support a wide diversity of wildlife. And best of all, they look great!
Also known as Poached Egg Flowers, these are native to Oregon and California. The plant was collected by the Scottish explorer and botanist David Douglas, who worked on the west coast of America in the 1820s. This plant thrives in wet, sunny meadows and poorly drained clay soils (it’s native to vernal pools) but it readily adapts to well-drained upland sites as well. Its cheerful appearance creates a stunning display when mass planted, re-seeding well, but never becoming weedy. Pollinators love this plant. Grows 6-12″ tall.
