This unique tomatillo comes from the Mexican town of Malinalco, about 70 miles southwest of Mexico City. Elongated, tapering fruits ripen to bright yellow and are much sweeter than most tomatillos with a flavor somewhere between a tomatillo and the sweeter more tropical notes of a ground cherry. Excellent grilled and diced or pureed for a fruitier version of salsa verde. Selected by Uprising Seed for PNW culture. Full sun. 70-80 days.
Care: Plant 3-4′ apart in rows 3-4′ apart in full sun. Fruits are ripe when the papery husk turns light brown and splits open, and will store up to 3 months in the husk. A lone tomatillo may grow and bloom but set little fruit; for abundant harvests, grow two or more tomatillo plants near each other to encourage cross-pollination.
