Salvia guaranitica ‘Amistad’

Description

The tops of the stalks are adorned with masses of dark purple flowers, each held in a lovely black calyx from June through frost…a hummingbird delight! One of the latest and greatest perennial salvias. Discovered by Argentinian salvia expert Rolando Uria in a garden bed. Makes a huge 3.5′ tall x 7′ wide clump in a single season. Place this in an empty corner of your garden and watch it go! It may need some mid-season pruning unless one has the space for it – otherwise trim back in early spring just as growth begins anew. Best grown in full to part sun along the coast, with protection from afternoon sun in warmer inland locations, in a fast-draining soil with moderate to regular watering. Likes a garden location that does not become too cold in winter and will remain evergreen in frost free locations.
