Alteño is an extra-large fruited poblano (Ancho) with good quality and heavy fruit. Mild heat (250-1500 Scoville units) is more spicy than hot. Fruit color matures from mid-dark green to deep red. The maturity is mid-early and it is suited for multiple harvests where it has the ability to maintain fruit size. The fruit are classical with broad shoulders and tapering to a point, firm, straight and have a high percentage of two lobes. The plants are strong and have good vigor. Photo courtesy of Sakata.
Care: Plant 18-24″ apart in rows 24-30″ apart in full sun. Keep soil uniformly moist (but not waterlogged) for best production.
