Lavatera maritima (Tree mallow) is a pretty, medium-sized, semi-evergreen sub-shrub with large, luminous, pale lavender flowers, 3″ across, adorned with a purple throat and reddish-violet veins radiating from it. An excellent choice for attracting butterflies into your garden, this Lavatera is the host plant for the common checkered skipper known as Pyrgus communis, part of the larger Skippers Hesperiidae family.
