Heirloom Bean ‘Hidatsa Red’ Dry Bush Bean

Plump, rose-red beans. Introduced in 1915 by Oscar H. Will & Company as part of its Pioneer Indian Collection of seeds, this one comes from the Hidatsa people of the upper Missouri River Valley. In its 1932 catalog, Oscar Will Seeds described Hidatsa Red as “a heavy yielder, hardy, drought resistant, and an excellent baking bean.” 85 days. Semi-vining bush beans that require some support to climb, typically reaching about 3 feet in height. They thrive in well-draining soil with a pH of 6.0-7.0, enriched with compost or aged manure.
