Heirloom Bean ‘Beefy Resilient Grex’ Dry Bush Bean

Description

A variety from breeder Carol Deppe, a grex is a population intentionally left mixed after a genetic cross to enhance its resilience and adaptability to environmental variations and stresses in growing conditions (soil, weather, disease and pest resistance.) According to Carol who bred it, “it is the most intensely beefy flavored bean I have ever eaten. Has become my main eating bean. Also the most productive dry bean I have ever grown by a factor of 2X or more.” These extremely productive bush plants benefit from something for their short runners to twine about. Pods varying in physical traits mature over a multi-week period to yield a harvest of small, meaty, thin-skinned beans in a satisfying array of earthtone shades. Soak for 24 hours before cooking. Care: Plant 3-4″ apart in rows 18-36” apart in full sun. Harvest dry beans when 90% of leaves have yellowed and fallen off.
