Euonymus ‘Compacta’ (Euonymus alatus)

Description

This deciduous mounding shrub is particularly known for its brilliant red color in the fall. During the rest of the year, when new growth emerges in the spring and on through the summer, this variety has medium- to dark-green leaves that look just fine in the garden or as a border. During the winter, red-orange berries appear, adding a pop of color. Plant can reach 8 – 10 feet tall and has a very dense growth habit, making it perfect for a hedgerow; Compacta really looks good when planted en masse. Able to grow in most any kind of soil and prefers sun to part shade. Hardy to Zone 4. Photos courtesy of Oregon State University.
