A succulent, maroon-painted lettuce that’s as resilient as it is beautiful. Teagan is a stunning, semi-heading lettuce that Rick Machado developed in his backyard plot in Bakersfield, California. Inspired by Regina dei Ghiacci (‘Ice Queen’)—an Italian lettuce with ten times the flavor of conventional icebergs—he crossed the heirloom to a red leaf lettuce, hoping to combine the best of both. Teagan will add serious flavor and delightful crunch to your favorite salads and sandwiches. But patience is key—be sure to let this stunning semi-heading lettuce reach full maturity. Forms a very large, mostly bronze-leafed head at full maturity. 65 days. Photo and text courtesy of Row 7.
Care: Plant 12-16″ apart in rows 16-18″ apart in a mostly sunny area.
