And best of all, they look great!<\/p>\n<p>Tapertip onion has round\u00a0umbels\u00a0of magenta flowers that burst open like miniature fireworks in spring and summer.\u00a0Bulblets reproduce easily and form dense clusters in dry, open\u00a0meadows or rock gardens. This\u00a0perennial\u00a0bulb\u00a0has a strong onion smell and can be eaten in small amounts. The odor does make tapertip onion a deer-resistant choice but does not deter\u00a0pollinators, butterflies, and birds which seek out the flowers. Blooms May-July. <i>Allium acuminatum <\/i>can be distinguished from most other species by having the combination of rose-colored outer sepals that are longer than the inner sepals, and more than 2 concave leaves.
