Artichoke ‘Colorado Star’

Description

Very early maturing compared to other purple varieties as well as green varieties. The 1-3′ tall plants vary from upright to prostrate, but all produce high yields of purple to green-purple buds. Perennial in Zone 7 and warmer, otherwise treat as an annual. Note: Amount of purpling may vary from plant to plant – some buds will be all purple, while others only show purple-tinged bracts. Protect crowns in winter.  75 days from transplant. OP
Care: Plant 3′ apart in rows 3′ apart in full sun. Harvest before flowers start to open. In October, cut back to 8-10″ from ground and mulch with straw or leaves. Uncover in April.
