PEAS

Shelling Peas

‘Blauschokker’ purple pod - Red & violet flowers followed by dark violet 3" pods with sweet tasty brown-gray peas. Bred by European monks in the 1500s. Use peas fresh or dried in soups, casseroles. 80-90 days

‘Dakota’ - Very early, very concentrated harvests of sweet green peas make ‘Dakota’ ideal for freezing or canning.  Compact 2’ vines turn out tons of 6” pods, with no need for staking.  57 days from transplant.

Eclipse‘Eclipse’ - Shelling variety. Good yields of very sweet, medium-sized peas in 3" pods. Breeding breakthrough means sugars convert to starch more slowly than varieties, so peas stay sweet longer. 60-65 days from transplant.


'Karina' - A garden favorite from Germany, with very high yields over a long season, even in hot weather. 8-10 sweet, dark green peas per 6" pod. Good fresh or frozen. 60 days from transplant.

‘Mr. Big’ - Sweet, flavorful shelling variety is good for fresh eating or freezing. Profuse harvest of 4-5" pods. Plant in moist well-drained soil in full sun. Vines grow 2-3 feet unsupported, 5-6 feet tall if supported.

‘Novella’ - Sturdy, prolific plants yield easy-to-pick 3" pods with 6-7 sweet, tender peas per pod.  Upright, 18-36" vines have few leaves but many attractive tendrils for garnish, salads, stirfries. 65 days from transplant.

‘Oregon Pioneer’ - Big pods each hold 7-8 peas with terrific flavor. Good fresh or frozen. Determinate variety grows 30” tall.  Developed at Oregon State University. 100 days from transplant.

‘Oregon Trail’ - Heavy yields of dark green peas with good flavor that freeze well.  Compact plants grow 20-30” tall, with double pods for easy picking.  Developed at Oregon State University.  70 days from transplant.

Snow Peas

‘Avalanche’ (OP) Tender, sweet, dark green pods are perfect for early salads & stirfries. Semi-leafless plants put more energy into producing pods, for high yields. 61 days from transplant.

‘Golden Sweet Edible’ - Snow pea.  Two-toned purple flowers followed by lemon-yellow pods.  Harvest pods when small for salads & stirfries or allow peas to develop and dry for use in soups.  Vines grow 5-6 feet tall, need support.  65 days from transplant.

‘Oregon Giant’ - Large, broad pods up to 5" long remain sweet and tender longer than other varieties. Disease resistant plants grow 30-36" tall. Developed at Oregon State University. 70 days from transplant.

‘Oregon Sugar Pod II’ - Succulent, sweet, 4-5” pods appear on dwarf vines that grow just 30” tall.  Disease resistant plants supply abundant easy-to-harvest pods.  Developed at Oregon State University.  70-80 days from transplant.

Snow Sweet‘Snow Sweet’ Snow pea. Sweet, stringless 3" pods can be used as a snow or snap pea. Sturdy, disease-resistant plants. One of the earliest spring vegetables - excellent for salads, steaming, stirfries. 60 days from transplant.


Snap Peas

‘Cascadia’ - Sweet, juicy, dark green pods make a fabulous snack.  Short, 32” vines with exceptional disease resistance produce tons of the plump 3½” pods for cooking or eating fresh.  60 days from transplant. 

‘Super Sugar Snap’ - Huge harvests of sweet, plump 3" pods start appearing early, are great fresh or cooked.  Vigorous, disease-resistant vines grow 5 feet tall – provide support.  58 days from transplant.

‘Sugar Sprint’ - Very early, with crisp, sugary, stringless 3” pods appearing over a long harvest period. Great fresh or cooked. Heat tolerant vines grow 24-30” tall. 61 days from transplant.

‘Sugar Star’ - Very early variety produces sweet, tender, 2½ to 3” pods on compact, 24-30” plants.  Dark green stringless pods are easy to harvest, good for freezing.  55 days from transplant.

Petit Pois

‘Waverex’ - Perfect tiny peas on little plants. Heavy yield, quality pea. Intense sweet flavor. Semi-bushy, 15 to 20" plants. Great in French cuisine.

Container Dwarfs

‘Dwarf Gray Sugar Snow’ - Container dwarf snow pea.  Heirloom variety prized for its sweet taste, tender texture, and purple-red flowers.  Pick the pale green, stringless 3-4” pods early for snow peas – or shell them and eat the peas if they get too large.  2-3 foot vines don’t require staking.  57 days from transplant.

‘Patio Wonder’ - Sweet, bright green peas appear 7-8 to a pod on very compact, 16” plants. Use in containers, hanging baskets, or window boxes. Early and disease-resistant. 57 days from transplant.

‘Tom Thumb’ - Rare heirloom variety is a miniature plant that grows just 8-12” tall but forms full-sized pods packed with bright green peas.  Grow in patio containers, hanging baskets, or window boxes.  55 days from transplant.

Tendril Shelling Peas

‘Sandy’ - Sweet green pods are best picked at 4” long.  Tall vines grow 42-48” tall, with few leaves but many attractive tendrils that can be used for garnish, salads, stirfries.  75 days from transplant.

Feisty‘Feisty’ –Sweet green peas, 6-8 per pod, produced on upright vines. Use tendrils for garnish. Afila type vines have few leaves, which makes harvesting easier.


PEPPERS

(Sweet Bells)

‘Better Belle’ - Blocky, thick-walled fruits are usually eaten as a crisp, sweet green bell pepper, but will get even sweeter if they mature to red.  High yields on disease-resistant plants over a long season. 65 days from transplant.

‘Blushing Beauty’ – 72 days. F1. An elegantly colored, large blocky bell pepper that changes from ivory to blush when mature. Its compact palnt habit makes it an ideal container pepper.


‘California Wonder’ – 65 days. Produces 4-5 sweet bell peppers that are typically 4-lobed, thick-walled and blocky. The large rich green fruit turn red on the bush. A great choice for cool growing conditions.

‘Chocolate Beauty’ – Rich brown 4-6" bell peppers with sweet flavor are good for fresh eating, stuffing, or pickling. The smooth juicy flesh is also quite tasty at the green stage. Good yields. 70 days from transplant for green, 85 for chocolate.


‘Golden Star’ –Shiny mid-green 4" fruits mature to sunshine yellow. Crisp, sweet, thick-walled peppers are good for fresh snacking, stirfrying, or cooking. Heavy yields. 60-65 days.


'Gourmet Orange'

'North Star' - Big, smooth, thick-fleshed fruits are among the earliest bell peppers to ripen – so you get sweet red peppers even in short season areas. Productive, adaptable, & disease resistant. 66 days from transplant.

‘Purple Beauty’

‘Red Beauty’ - 68 days. F1. Plant produces good yields of 4" long by 4" wide sweet bell peppers. Peppers turn from green to red when mature. Excellent for salads, stuffing, gourmet dishes. Disease Resistant.

‘Red Knight’ – Blocky, 3 to 4 lobed bell peppers mature from dark green to bright red, with very good sweet flavor at all stages of ripening. Early and abundant yields of 4 inch fruits. 65-70 days from transplant.


‘Socrates’ - 65-75 days. Early, heavy yields of blocky, thick-walled 4-6" fruits that mature to bright red. Vigorous, disease resistant plants. Sweet juicy peppers good for salads, salsa, stuffing.


'Super Heavyweight' Jumbo bell peppers ripen from jade green to bright gold, with sweet thick flesh high in vitamin C. Blocky 5-6" fruits are ideal for stuffing or eating fresh. 75-80 days from transplant.

‘Valencia’ Orange 70-75 days. Flavorful, blocky 4" fruits mature to bright pumpkin-orange. Juicy and sweet. Abundant thick-walled fruits produced on widely adapted, easy-to-grow plants.


‘Yolo Wonder’ - 75-80 days. Peppers are green, turning red at full maturity when the flavor sweetens considerably. They're delicious raw or cooked.

(Sweet Non-Bell Peppers)

‘Carmen’ - Firm, tapered, 6" long peppers turn from green to red. Italian variety is noticeably sweeter than other peppers, especially when fully ripe. Use cooked or sliced fresh for salads or snacking. 75 days from transplant. (AAS 2006)


‘Cherry Pick’ - 70-75 days. Perfectly round, bright red fruits like oversize cherries appear abundantly on vigorous plants. Smooth meaty mini-peppers can be used green or red, for pickling, canning, salads.


‘Gypsy Yellow’ 60 days. Outstanding yield, early producer – good for cooler climates. Wedge-shaped, 3-5” fruits are pale yellow, ripening to deep orange-red.  Very sweet when ripe.

‘Papri Paprika’ Mild 6” peppers with just a hint of heat turn from green to dark red as they mature. Excellent dried, crushed, & ground into paprika. 85 days from transplant.

‘Pimiento’ - 73 days. The Pimento is a variety of large, red, heart-shaped chili pepper that measures 3 to 4 inches long and 2 to 3 inches wide. The flesh of the pimento is sweet, succulent and more aromatic than that of the red bell pepper.

‘Pinot Noir' - Large blocky fruits start light green, turning shades of pale red, purple, and gold as they mature. Crisp, sweet, and thick-walled fruits on adaptable plants. 70-80 days from transplant.


(Hot Peppers)

‘Anaheim’ Chili’ - 70 days. One of the finest fresh eating chiles! The meaty 7" long pods are about 1" wide and a breeze to peel and stuff. Early and productive, they will grow into handsome chile-filled bushes averaging 24" tall. Drought tolerant.

'Cayenne Long'

‘Greek Golden Pepperoncini’- Sweet, crunchy peppers with mild heat are a favorite for pickling, salads, & salsas. Harvest the light yellow fruits at 2-3" long. Productive even in cooler, short-season areas. 60-70 days from transplant.

 

‘Jaloro’

‘Mariachi’- 65-68 days. Award winning fruits are big, early, finely flavored, & abundant. Abundant, fleshy, 3-4” cone-shaped fruits ripen from yellow to red. Mild to hot flavor. (AAS 2006)


‘Pizza’ – Cone-shaped 3-4” peppers with extremely thick walls are hottest when green, milder when red, perfect for slicing fresh onto pizza or nachos. Big yields on 14-18” plants. 80 days from transplant.

‘Poblano/Ancho’ –80 days. Produces high quality dark green to red, large-sized fruit averaging 5-6” long. This mildly pungent pepper is excellent for drying, as well as for rajas and rellenos.


‘Serrano del Sol’- 60-70 days. Medium hot, 3" by 1 1/2" dark green fruits mature to red. Hybrid variety is larger, matures earlier than open-pollinated serranos. Use fresh, green or red, in sauces or Mexican dishes.

‘Super Chile’- 50-70 days. Light Green/orange/red. Plant is semi-compact and spreads out to 24” when mature, yielding up to 300 fruit.

‘Tam Jalapeno’- 65-70 days. Milder version of the jalapeno is perfect for those who like jalapeno flavor but not so much heat.
Good yields of dark green, 3" conical fruits that ripen to red.


(Blazing Hot Peppers)

‘Habanero’- 90-100 days. Compact 12” plants yield thin walled peppers that start out green and ripen to a pink-orange color. Peppers are extremely hot!

‘Holy Molé’ (2007 AAS) - 85 days. F1. A Pasilla pepper, it is mildly hot, with a nutty, tangy flavor. These very heavy-yielding plants grow armloads of 9" long by 1 ½" wide chocolate brown hot peppers that turn from glossy dark green to chocolate brown when mature. Plant height is 36" tall.


‘Jalapeno’- 85 days. Plant produces high yields of Jalapeno hot peppers. Peppers are hot, have thick wall, and turn from green to red when mature. Best when harvested when green. Excellent for making salsa and pickling.

‘Mucho Nacho’- 75 days. Jumbo jalapeno that is not only longer than the standard jalapeno, but also wider, heavier, and hotter. Very vigorous plants are excellent producers of these 4” long peppers. Beautiful fruit ripen to red upon full maturity.

‘Purple Jalapeno’ – 75 days. Peppers are larger than regular jalapeno, but with the same thick walls and fiery heat and turn dark purple before finally ripening to red. Great for salsa!


‘Thai Dragon’- 70 days. The 3.5” fruits are prolific bearers often yielding up to 200 fruits. This variety gives Habenero a run for its money!

PARSLEY

‘Plain’ – 75 days. Leaves are flat and rich flavored. Preferred by cooks for its finer flavor.

‘Paramount Triple Curled’ – Dense, tightly curled dark green leaves on vigorous plants. Cut individual sprigs as needed from the outside of the plant, or harvest all but the center growth for drying. 60-80 days from transplant.


PERILLA (SHISO)

‘Green’ Shiso –Spicy leaves have an incredible blend of flavors - cumin, cilantro, parsley, & a hint of cinnamon. Used in Japanese cooking, in salads, and to wrap sushi. 80 days from transplant. Plant 6-12" apart in rows 12-18" apart in full sun.  Plants grow 18-30" tall. Harvest leaves as needed.

‘Purple’ Shiso - Decorative and edible purple foliage! The spicy, cinnamon-scented leaves are used in Japanese cooking, salads, and to add color to radish and plum pickles. 80 days from transplant.


PUMPKINS

‘Baby Bear’ – 95-110 days. 1 ½ -2 lbs with a 3” long stem. Fruits are smooth, moderately ribbed and bright orange. A short vine can produce up to ten fruits.

‘Baby Boo’ – 100 days. A miniature white baby pumpkin weighing 3-4 oz. Very prolific; yields up to 10 snowy fruits per vine.


‘Fairytale’ Also called ‘Musque de Provence,’ & similar to ‘Cinderella.’ Lobed, flattened mahogany fruits 12-18” across have fine, deep orange flesh good for cooking or pies. 110 days from transplant.

‘Jack O’Lantern’ - Round, uniform, smooth skinned, yellow thick flesh. Reach up to 10 pounds. 100 days.

‘Lumina’ White’ – Ghostly white pumpkins make spooky jack-o-lanterns! Slightly flattened, 10-12 lb. fruits with bright orange flesh are perfect for painting, carving, or cooking. 90-100 days from transplant.

‘Orange Smoothie’ – 90 days. F1. Pumpkin has dark orange, smooth skin and weighs 5-8 lbs with a strong. Long handle. Great for carving.

rumbo‘Rumbo’ –Caramel-colored, 6" by 12" fruits look like storybook pumpkins! Meaty, sweet golden flesh is superb for baking. Easy to grow, high-yielding, & a good keeper. 95-110 days from transplant.

 

‘Sorcerer’

‘Wee-B-Little’ – 85 days. These charming little pumpkins are 3-4”across and weigh about 1 lb. The compact vine spreads 6-8 feet. Almost round, not so flattened, ribbed like real pumpkins with a perfect scale down, strong handle and deep orange color.

Super Freak ‘Goosebumps’ 95 days. Plant produces a 12 lb orange pumpkins with goose bumps all over.


Super Freak ‘Knucklehead’ 105 days. The largest variety in the Super Freak series. . Plant produces a 12-16 lb orange pumpkins with goose bumps all over.


RADICCHIO

‘Castelfranco’ - Beautiful Italian heirloom has creamy pale green heads splashed with wine red. Small leaves add zest to salads. Use larger heads in cooking. Excellent winter hardiness. 80-90 days from transplant.


‘Chioggia Red Preco’ –Deep burgundy-red, well-folded heads with contrasting white veins mature early on bolt-resistant plants.  Classic Italian variety adds color and crunch to green salads.  60 days from transplant.

‘Palermo’ Nice round heads with excellent, deep purple-red color are good for late summer production. Adds color & crunch to salads. 80 days from transplant.

RUMEX

‘Raspberry Dressing’  Forms ornamental rosettes of maroon-veined green leaves. Young leaves have a sharp, tangy flavor similar to spinach or chard and can be added to salads. 30-40 days from transplant.

 

SOYBEANS

‘Envy’ edamame - Buttery-sweet, bright green beans mature early on bushy 2’ plants – great for short season or northern gardens.  For edamame, harvest as soon as pods are filled but still green.  Boil pods 5-10 minutes in salted water, then pop beans out of the shell to eat.  70-80 days from transplant.

‘Amsterdam Prickly Seeded’ Sturdy plants produce tender, green leaves with red-tinged stalks. Prickly-seeded spinach tends to be Asian in origin, with arrow-shaped leaves & good winter performance. 50 days from transplant.

‘Tyee’ – (F1)  Vigorous, semi-savoyed dark green variety with a clean, upright habit. Use flavorful leaves in salads, cooking. Disease-resistant, heat-resistant plants are slow to bolt. 45 days from transplant.

‘Black Beauty ‘ zucchini - The classic zucchini! Glossy black-green fruits with creamy, tender white flesh appear early on prolific compact plants with an open habit for easy harvest. 50-60 days from transplant.

‘Bush Baby’ zucchini

‘Cue Ball’ Pool Ball zucchini - Pale green, globe-shaped fruits are good for stuffing or any summer squash recipe. Harvest often, at 3-4" across for best flavor & to encourage more fruits. Bush-type plants. 45-55 days from transplant.

‘Flying Saucer’ Scallop – Star-shaped fruits striped in yellow and cream with a light and dark green cap on the bottom. Can be harvested continuously as a baby squash or when larger. 50-60 days from transplant.

‘Gold Rush’ zucchini - 55 days. Bright golden-yellow and yields smooth cylindrical fruit on compact plants.

‘Golden Zebra’ zucchini (F1) Buttery yellow, cylindrical fruits with flavorful, meaty flesh. Easy to see and pick from bushy plants. 50-60 days from transplant.

‘Green Tiger Hybrid’ zucchini (F1) Glossy, striped dark & light green fruits appear consistently on compact, bushy plants. Pick at 6-8” for best flavor & texture. 55 days from transplant.

‘Multipik’ (F1) Golden yellow straightnecks with a medium bulb have excellent, true-squash flavor. Vigorous, high-yield bush plants. 50 days from transplant.

‘Papaya Pear’ – 40 days. Shaped like a papaya or pear. Best harvested when the fruit are about 3” long and 2-3” wide. This semi-bush plant yields an abundance of yellow-skinned fruit.

‘Summerpac’ crookneck - Butter yellow crookneck fruits should be harvested at 5-6" long for the best-tasting, most tender flesh. Ideal for steaming, baking, frying, or raw. Prolific bush-type plants. 45-55 days from transplant.


‘Sunbeam Yellow Scallop’ - Disc-shaped dark golden fruits with a scalloped edge have tender, nutty-tasting flesh. Delicious as a baby squash and as a full-size patty pan. Resistant to powdery mildew. 50-60 days from transplant.


‘White Tiger’ zucchini - White-skinned zucchini adds a new color to the vegetable tray! The 6-7" cylindrical fruits are produced on compact, bush-type plants. Pick when small for best flavor. 50-60 days from transplant.


SQUASH (Winter)

‘Blue Ballet’ hubbard – (OP) Smooth blue-gray 4-6 lb. fruits with sweet, deep orange flesh. Stores well. Medium-sized variety delicious for pies or just roasted with a little butter. 90-100 days from transplant.


‘BonBon’ Buttercup - Smooth, bright orange flesh with rich sweet flavor inside deep green drum-shaped fruits.  Conveniently sized 2-4 pound squash mature early and store well.  80-90 days from transplant.

'Burgess' buttercup - Dark green-skinned, 5-6”, slightly flattened fruits with sweet, fine textured orange flesh. Steam, boil, or bake with butter & brown sugar. Relatively early, compact. 100 days from transplant.

'Burpee Butterbush' Cream-colored butternut-type squash with deep red-orange flesh, superb for pies. Compact, productive bush-type plants. Good keeper. 100 days from transplant.

‘Honey Bear’ acorn bush (AAS 2009) Dark green 1 lb. fruits with golden flesh are just right for two servings. Terrific new variety all-around, with sweet full flavor, high yields on compact plants, and resistance to powdery mildew.


‘Honey Boat’ delicata – The sweetest delicata, with rich, nutty dark orange flesh. Tan & green striped, 1- 2 lb. oblong fruits are perfect for 1 or 2 servings. Developed by Dr. Jim Baggett at OSU. 110 days from transplant.


‘Bush’ delicata - (OP) High yields in less space! Creamy white 3" by 8" oblong squash striped with green have smooth, nutty golden flesh. Delicious for pies or just baking and eating from the shell. 80 days from transplant.


'Cornell's Bush Delicata' Plump, green-streaked creamy white 8" fruits contain thick, deep yellow flesh with sweet nutty flavor. Good yields on disease-resistant, compact semi-bush plants. 100-110 days from transplant.

‘Pilgrim Butternut’ – Cream-colored 2-3 lb. fruits with golden flesh. Semi-bush plants produce more squash in less space, perform well under a wide variety of conditions. Stores well. 90-100 days from transplant.


‘Red Kuri’ - 92 days. Fruits weigh 4-7 lbs. Beautiful scarlet teardrop shape and smooth textured flesh. Yields 2-3 fruits per plant.


‘Small Wonder’ Spaghetti – Oval, 6" by 5" fruits are the perfect single-serving size! Bake, discard seeds, use a fork to scrape the sweet yellow flesh into noodle-like strands, & top with pasta sauce. 75-80 days from transplant.

‘Sweet Dumpling’

‘Sweet Meat’ – 115 days. This slate gray, round squash with rich, sweet flavor weighs 10-15 lbs and its vigorous vines grow to 10 feet.

'Triamble' - Rare! Three-lobed triangular fruits have wrinkled blue-gray rinds & thick flesh, excellent for pies. Long keeper. 120 days from transplant.

‘Vegetable Spaghetti’ – When baked, the golden flesh can be scraped out with a fork into noodle-like strands and topped with your favorite sauce, like pasta. Harvest when fruits are 5-8" long and turn tan or yellow. 100 days from transplant.

STRAWBERRIES

AROMAS
Day-length neutral. Extend the season! Well-sized, flavorful red fruits ripen late on widely adapted plants. Abundant fall harvests. Starts producing heavily in 2nd year. Patented.

BENTON
June bearing. Easy, upright, winter-tolerant plants yield big flavorful red berries for freezing or fresh eating. Mid to late season. Starts producing heavily in 2nd year.

ELAN F1  Day neutral. Shiny bright red fruits have high sugar levels for sweet gourmet flavor. Easy-to-pick berries on sturdy vigorous plants. Starts producing heavily in 2nd year.

EVERSWEET
Day neutral. Heat resistant plants ripen beautiful glossy red fruits with outstanding flavor spring through fall. Starts producing heavily in 2nd year.

FIRECRACKER
June bearing. High yields of intensely flavored red fruits appear later than other varieties (early July), to extend the strawberry season. Starts producing heavily in 2nd year.

FORT LARAMIE
Everbearing. High yields of delicious large berries. Very sturdy, winter hardy variety from Wyoming can be grown in containers – even hanging baskets. Starts producing heavily in 2nd year. Care: Plant 12-16” apart, with the crown at soil level. Needs rich well-drained soil, full sun, & 1-2” of water per week.

HONEOYE
June bearing. Very large, sweet-tart fruits ripen extra early. Winter tolerant plants are ideal for northern gardens. Heavy yields. Starts producing heavily in 2nd year.
Care: Plant 12-16” apart, with the crown at soil level. Needs rich well-drained soil, full sun, & 1-2” of water per week.

HOOD
June bearing. Luscious, deep red, conical berries ripen early but don’t keep long, so they’re best grown at home. Scrumptious with ice cream. Starts producing heavily in 2nd year. Care: Plant 12-16” apart, with the crown at soil level. Needs rich well-drained soil, full sun, & 1-2” of water per week.

OZARK BEAUTY
Everbearing. Sweet, juicy, wedge-shaped fruits are bright red inside and out. Large yields throughout summer and fall. Starts producing heavily in 2nd year.
