A distinctive, moderately spicy flavor that will stand out in any fresh salsa. Plump cloves and good storage. Very easy to grow and peel. 30-40 cloves per lb. Fewer but larger cloves per bulb with a complex flavor. Plants produce a fibrous stalk that sends up an edible flower scape in the spring. Harvest scapes when they appear to promote better bulb development. These generally do better in areas with colder winters.
Care: Plant 6-8″ apart, 1-2″ deep. Harvest when all but 3-4 leaves turn dry and brown (usually July). Hang to dry in cool, shady, ventilated area for 2 weeks, then store in a cool dark location.
