Apple-shaped French gourd is 6-8 inches tall and 5-6 inches across, with a very hard, light green shell covered in small warty bumps. Excellent for crafts or ornamental displays, the gourds turn brown (pictured) as they dry. Long vigorous vines. 125 days from transplant. Care: Plant 5-6′ apart in rows 6-8′ apart in full sun and well-drained soil. Grow on a trellis or fence for cleaner fruit. Leave on the vine as long as possible, until rinds have hardened. Bring in after the first light frost, before rains. Wash ripe gourd in diluted bleach solution, dry, then wax with floor wax and polish. Turn regularly while drying; takes about a month.
